Anyone who has a pet must know what to do when pee happens – especially when they happen on carpets. If you have a young puppy or an older dog who just had an accident on your plush and luxurious carpet, don’t panic. You can easily give your Cleaning Products Supplier Florida a call or you can choose to handle the problem yourself using these guidelines:
How Can I Get the Odor Out of the Carpet?
- Blot up the urine as soon as possible
If you can immediately remove most of the urine by blotting it up, the bacteria that cause the odor will not get a hold. First, you’ll need a paper towel with a length of around 6 sheets. Next, you’ll need to have it folded into a six-sheet thick square before you use it to press down onto the wet area with your foot. Repeat the process using a fresh paper towel until the area is dry.
- Use a blacklight to find dried stains that are invisible to the eye
If you failed to blot it out and the pee has already dried up, it will become invisible. However, since the bacteria have already gotten a hold on your carpet, the odor will become hard to miss. That’s why you’ll need to use a black light to locate the offending area.
- Prepare a homemade vinegar solution to get rid of the smell of pee
Mix equal parts of water and vinegar and put it in a spray bottle. Although the vinegar smells strong, it will neutralize the odor of ammonia in the urine. Once you put on your rubber gloves, start spraying the vinegar from the outer edge of the stain moving towards the middle. Using your fingers, work the vinegar solution into the carpet fibers before you blot it up with a paper towel.
- Sprinkle baking soda on top to counteract the vinegar’s smell
Spread a liberal amount of baking soda into the area until it’s completely white and work it with your fingertips. Leave it for 30 mins.
- Suck up the baking soda with a vacuum
Vacuum the baking soda out of the carpet after making sure that it’s dry.
