MERV 8 general purpose air filters meet or exceed the requirements for the MERV 8 rating by capturing 75 to 80% of particles in the 3 to 10-micron range (such as dusting aids and cement dust) and 20 to 35% of particles in the 1 to 3-micron range (lead dust, humidifier dust, coal dust, and nebulizer droplets). They are commonly used as pre-filters for higher-rated filters or as the final filter in a low-dust environment.
